Celebrating One Year of Battersea Power Station Opening: A Step Back in Time to 1930s and 1950s London!

Battersea Power Station is gearing up to celebrate its one-year anniversary since opening its doors to the public, and the 'Behind The Bricks Festival' is the perfect way to mark this significant milestone. From the 21st to 29th of October 2023, visitors will be taken on a nostalgic journey, immersing themselves in the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of 1930s and 1950s London.

A Festive Time Travel Experience

The festival promises an array of activities that pay homage to the rich heritage of Battersea Power Station, offering a blend of historical insights and contemporary entertainment. Guests can look forward to a range of engaging events and experiences that reflect the two distinct eras in which the Power Station's iconic halves were completed.

Explore the Rich Heritage

The festival boasts an engaging lineup of Expert Panel Talks, shedding light on previously untold stories about this London landmark. Restoration experts will delve into various aspects, from the rebuilding of the iconic chimneys to the fascinating tale behind the 1.75 million bricks used in the restoration process. Moreover, the festival will offer a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from former employees who worked at the coal-fired Power Station.

Step Back in Time

Don't miss the chance to experience the Official Guided Tours, unveiling the historic journey of the Grade II* listed building. These tours will grant exclusive access to the exquisitely restored Art Deco Control Room A, offering a glimpse into the architectural marvels of the past.

Fun-Filled Activities for Everyone

The festival caters to all age groups, with a host of Children's Activities lined up. Engage in interactive arts and crafts sessions, enjoy face painting and balloon art, and participate in workshops to build a replica of the iconic K2 red telephone box.

Children can get hands-on with history this half-term at the festival’s arts and crafts sessions! Sessions take place between 11am – 4pm.

Face painting and balloon art: Is it a falcon? Is it a chimney? Or is it brush? Our balloon and face painting artists will be waiting for you in Turbine Hall B for a bit of magic. 21st, 22nd, 28th & 29th Oct in Turbine Hall B, Upper Ground level.

Time to Fly with Faber-Castell: Join Stephanie Hartman, Faber-Castell & Postmark in crafting your very own vibrant feather using Faber-Castell art materials to create a whimsical bird of wonder. 23rd & 24th Oct in Turbine Hall B, Upper Ground level.

Storytelling with Battersea BookshopJoin the Power Station’s neighbourhood bookstore for a storytelling sessions of children’s classics and get transported back to 1950s. 24th Oct in Battersea Bookshop in Turbine Hall B, Ground level.
