PRINT 08 - MD SPENGLER

For our Print 08 design, we collaborated with Marc David Spengler. Marc is a young artist based in Stuttgart, Germany. He only JUST graduated from The State Academy of Art and Design. Marc’s graphic style of prints play with adding and removing volumes of basic geometric shapes. This process was inspired by early experimentations with graffiti. Ahead of Marc’s collaboration with Petit Pli, he has worked with Van’s, Hermes and Warby Parker

As a school boy, Marc took to the grey walls of Stuttgart to experiment with the medium. Soon after, bubble letters were replaced by simple abstract shapes, similar to those seen in his work today. Why? Marc explains that words and letters were limiting. A greater opportunity came from spraying shapes. There was a greater opportunity to transfer emotions and feelings. Learn more about Marc in our short interview below:

PART I. MARC’S WORLD

Tell us about your print and illustrations for Petit Pli

The artwork shows a variety of shapes that I like to experiment with. My goal for it was to make it harmonious in the colors and the shapes. The original drawing of this artwork was part of the final round and exhibition of the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2020.

Do you remember how you saw the world when you were a LittleHuman?

Not really. But maybe I kept the same view on the world.

Do you have any advice to share with LittleHumans interested in following art or becoming printmakers?

Follow your interest, do what makes you happy. If you like to draw, keep on doing it.

What have LittleHumans taught you? Have they changed you as a person/artist?

I have learnt that a baby can put a smile on your face.

PART II. MARC’S RECOMMENDATIONS 🚀

Seen any recent innovations or inspirations that have caught your eye?

I recently learned about Dall-e-2, and I would love to experiment with it.

Recommendations where you are based?

I’m based in a smaller suburb outside of Stuttgart, Germany. It’s where I grew up.
